This book is a collection of real-life stories
of how one mother made a huge and positive
impact on the lives of her eight sons.
Life wasn't always easy for the Flaherty family,
however Doris Flaherty, along with her husband,
used her education, experiences, and Irish wit
to teach her sons some of life's most valuable
lessons. Doris Flaherty was typical of
mothers raising children in the 1950's and 60's.
She based her parenting skills on not only what
she learned from her parents, but took her own
life's lessons and applied it daily to her sons'
upbringing. Many lessons she taught can be
applied to today's issues and youth. |

Book Description
Author Patrick Flaherty honors his mother by sharing some
insightful real-life stories about his mother. His mom, Doris
Flaherty, was just like millions of mothers raising families in
the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s. She, like most moms today, used
family events to her advantage, and by showing by example,
taught her sons valuable life lessons. Most of these lessons
that her eight sons were taught can easily be applied by today’s
mothers of the 21st century in their everyday
challenge for raising children.
About the Author
Pat Flaherty is one of eight boys raised by Jim and Doris
Flaherty. Born in Rock Island, Illinois, he grew up in a
“typical” large family household in the 1950s and 1960s. This
home was always active with the eight Flaherty boys, lots of
neighborhood friends; pets that included dogs, a raccoon, and
white rats. Life was never dull it the Flaherty’s.
Pat Flaherty has built several businesses including one that
made the Inc.500 list of fastest growing private American
companies, for three years in a row. He spends much of his time
developing socially responsible and educational products that
focus on drug, alcohol, and other youth-related education. This
business was founded in 1996 with several of his
impairment-awareness products now in use in over 10,000 American
schools. He is the author of several books, including Life’s
Lessons from Dad, and the producer of school-based videos such
as Bullying Education, Student Safety in Schools, and Peer
Mediation in schools. Pat is very active as a volunteer coach
for the Bettendorf, Iowa Youth Wrestling Club, which he and
other coaching volunteers founded. He’s also an assistant
Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 89. |
